Welcome to HEI's site for backpackers. This
site is dedicated to providing useful information as well as offering
innovative products to make your backpacking trips more enjoyable.
HEI was started by a NASA engineer backpacker,
who is now retired. He makes innovative backpacking equipment for
his own use. This site is now offering manufactured versions of
some of this equipment.
Our first product is the patented
Equalizer® which levels and stabilizes popular backpacking
stoves allowing their use on most any surface and incline. You will
find it described under innovative gear:
The Equalizer.
A
typical mountain backpack trail is pictured to the right. (Click
on small picture for higher resolution picture). This trail
runs from a large hot-springs at 7000' elevation to glacier fed
Turquoise Lake at 9500' elevation, and is a favorite of ours. It
begins at UTM coordinates 544 900E & 48 02 141N shown on Wyoming
7.5min Topo Map "Granite Falls". To learn more about Topo
maps on your computer and about using UTM coordinates, go to Backcountry
Navigation: Maps.
